Wood Preservation Sector

The Canadian wood preservation industry has existed since 1910. The industry treats wood with heavy-duty waterborne and oil-borne preservatives for both industrial and residential market applications. The wood preservation sector in Canada comprises the chemical preservative manufacturers, the wood treating plants, and the users of both industrial and consumer products. As of 2000, 68 wood treating plants have been identified as operational in Canada. By applying preservatives the industry extends the productive life of wood, thereby reducing the stress on forest resources.
