Fuel containing toxic substances that are dangerous goods within the meaning of section 2 of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, 1992

The concern about contaminated fuel stems from toxic substances that are present in the fuel, and not from the fuel itself. Potential contaminants include chlorinated hydrocarbons, including PCBs; and heavy metals. Fuels are used to produce energy. These fuels may be released into the environment through spills, evaporative emissions, or as a result of incomplete combustion.
