Peter Blancher

Research Scientist - Landbirds (Partners in Flight)

CURRENT S&T / RESEARCH - Contributing to Environment Canada’s mandate to ensure wildlife is conserved and protected

  • Species assessment – uses of bird survey and bird range data to assess relative need for conservation attention
  • Setting measurable population objectives for birds, involving indices and estimates of abundance and occurrence
  • Measures of population change in migratory birds over time, using a variety of bird survey data

Providing scientific support to bird conservation initiatives (e.g., Partners in Flight [international, national, regional], North American Bird Conservation Initiative, Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada)

Involvement in technical committees evaluating bird survey data for bird conservation purposes; e.g., Boreal Bird-Habitat modelling, international Rusty Blackbird technical group, peer assessments of North American and Canadian bird monitoring programs, extent of incidental take of birds in Canada

Conference presentations at ornithology meetings and workshops (e.g., North American Ornithological Conference, Partners in Flight International Conference).
