Cécilien Charette

Meteorologist R&D - Data Assimilation and Satellite Meteorology

CURRENT S&T / RESEARCH - Participation in the development of the data assimilation system and its adaptation to the numerical forecast model and computer changes in order to improve weather and environmental forecasts

  • Expertise and scientific support to research scientists in meteorology, data assimilation and verification of numerical forecasts
  • Computer development of objective analysis software and tools necessary for the operation and evaluation of the data assimilation system
  • Planning, preparation, adaptation and evaluation of improvements made to the analysis component and/or numerical forecast model of the data assimilation system
  • Technology transfer of changes to the data assimilation system in CMC operational runs

One year as a forecaster with the prediction centre for the Canadian Arctic, eight years as an analyst and forecaster with the CMC, two years as the head of the operational run implementation section at the CMC, twenty-five years as a meteorologist with the data assimilation group at PRN/ARMA

Maintenance of the objective analysis code until the early 2000s (OI, 3DVAR/4DVAR)

Adaptation of the data assimilation system to the different forecast model configurations (SPE, GEM, GEM-MESO, GEM-STRATO)

Update of forecast and observation error statistics, as needed and assimilation of chemical species in 3DVAR/4DVAR mode
