Dr. Neil C. Swart

Research Scientist - Developing the physical and biogeochemical components of the Canadian Earth System Model and examining the role of the ocean in the climate system

CURRENT S&T / RESEARCH - To understand and predict climate change by developing and analyzing Earth System Climate models and observations, and in particular focusing on the physical and biogeochemical components of the ocean.

  • Constraining historical and future ocean carbon uptake and climate using observations and models.
  • Developing and testing ocean biogeochemical models and physical parameterizations of mesoscale eddies.
  • Analyzing observed and simulated changes in the circulation and climate of the atmosphere and ocean, particularly over the Southern Ocean.
  • Accelerating model convergence.

Contributing Author, 2014 WMO/UNEP Ozone Assessment, Chapter 4.

Contributing Author, IPCC Fifth Assessment Report, Chapter 3.

Co-lecturer of EOS433/550 The Climate System at the University of Victoria.
