"Science in Support of International Treaties on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)": Atmospheric Pollution Research Special Issue |

Atmospheric Science and Technology Directorate scientists Dr. Tom Harner and Dr. Hayley Hung are co-editors with Dr. Matthew MacLeod of Stockholm University of a special issue in the journal Atmospheric Pollution Research titled "Science in Support of International Treaties on POPs." This special issue highlights the achievements on international collaboration and integrated, multi-disciplinary research on the advancement of scientific knowledge of POPs to best inform international treaties on these pollutants. The special issue includes a Foreword by Dr. David Stone (retired chair of the Northern Contaminants Program, chair of the preparation group for the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution POPs Protocol and one of the key negotiators for Canada during the development of the Stockholm Convention on POPs), a Perspective article by Dr. Ramon Guardans (co-chair of the Global Coordination Group of the Stockholm Convention Global Monitoring Plan), a Short Communication by Dr. Katarina Magulova from the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and 15 feature articles and reviews reporting the most recent developments on emissions, atmospheric measurements, process studies, fate and transport models, and international environmental agreements and collaborations on POPs. Four feature articles are co-authored by Environment Canada scientists.
