2010-09-24

The newest edition of Ecotoxicology of Amphibians and Reptiles has been released! This book offers an authoritative collection of the most recent information on effects of chemical residues on animals and what they mean for science and policy. Co-editor and Environment Canada (EC) scientist, Christine Bishop, along with other EC scientists, have contributed to this second edition which covers nearly twice as many topics as the original.

Couverture « Ecotoxicology of Amphibians and Reptiles »New in the Second Edition:

  • New research on the effects of pesticides, heavy metals, endocrine disrupting chemicals and UVB
  • Increased focus on the effects of contaminants rather than reporting residue information
  • New information on atrazine and its effects on gonads at low concentrations
  • Coverage of a potentially alarming new cadre of chemicals recently, or will soon be, on the market that have little or no information  pertaining to toxicological impacts
  • Important advances in species surveying and monitoring

This text compiles the newest research about the worldwide phenomenon of declining amphibian populations. Amphibians are considered indicator species in their ecosystems, making their decline a serious issue. The latest knowledge is contained in these pages, including recent developments in the ecotoxicology of amphibians, reptiles, animals and the intrinsic factors that affect their susceptibility to contaminants.
