Environment Canada will co-moderate a panel with the United Nations University-Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) at the Canadian Science Policy Conference (CSPC) in Ottawa on November 17th, 2011 from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm to discuss K*and its role in strengthening science-policy integration. This year’s panel will build on the one-day Knowledge Brokering and Translation Workshop, co-organized by Environment Canada, held under the auspices of the 2010 CSPC.  This year’s panel session is one of several to be held under the theme of Major Issues in Canadian Science Policy.

The session will be moderated by Shannon deGraaf (Acting Senior Science Policy Analyst, Environment Canada) and Alex T. Bielak (Senior Fellow and Knowledge Broker, United Nations University) and will feature the following panelists: Jason Blackstock, Ph.D. (the Centre for International Governance Innovation, Canada); Amanda Cooper, (Knowledge Network for Applied Education Research); Katrina Hitchman, Ph.D. (Canadian Water Network), David Phipps Ph.D. (York University); and Louise Shaxon (Overseas Development Institute, UK).

This year's CSPC will bring together more than 500 high-profile scientists, executives, industry leaders, government officials and academics: it will provide a platform for developing innovative policy solutions, help contribute to dialogue among various sectors of science policy and provide networking opportunities with leaders in the science policy community.
