On November 21, 2012, the Domestic Substances List (DSL) was amended to include the first nanomaterial surface modified nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) in accordance with the New Substances Notifications Regulations (NSNR) under CEPA 1999. The DSL is an inventory of substances that may be imported and/or manufactured in Canada. An assessment of risk to the environment and to human health from this surface modified NCC concluded no suspicion of toxicity.
