New Announcements in the Canada Gazette on Screening Assessments of Chemical Substances |

Announced in the Canada Gazette, Part I:
The following four draft assessments propose to conclude and the following four final assessments conclude that these chemical substances are not entering the environment in concentrations or quantities or under conditions that pose a risk to the environment or to human health, and therefore the substances do not meet any of the criteria set out in section 64 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999.
- Draft screening assessment report on Fuel Oil No. 4, Fuel Oil No. 6 and Residual Fuel Oil in Stream 3 of the Petroleum Sector Stream Approach, released on April 13, 2013.
- Draft screening assessment report on 3 Aviation Fuels, in Stream 3 of the Petroleum Sector Stream Approach, released on April 13, 2013.
- Two draft screening assessment reports for five Diarylide Yellow Pigments and 42 Benzidine-Based Substances and Benzidine Derivatives released on June 15, 2013.
- Final screening assessment report on 533 Substances of Low Concern under the Rapid Screening Approach, released on April 20, 2013.
- Final screening assessment report on 52 substances with High Hazard Potential on the Domestic Substances List, released on May 25, 2013.
- Final screening assessment report on 1,1-dichloroethene, released on June 1, 2013.
- Final screening assessment report on 1,2-dibromoethane, released on June 1, 2013.
The following draft assessment proposes to conclude and the following final assessment concludes that these chemical substances are entering the environment in concentrations or quantities or under conditions that could pose a risk to the environment or to human health, and therefore these substances meet one of the criteria set out in section 64 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999.
- Draft screening assessment report on Fuel Oil No. 2 in Stream 3 of the Petroleum Sector Stream Approach, released on June 1, 2013.
- Final screening assessment report on 40 site-restricted petroleum and refinery gases substances in Stream 1 of the Petroleum Sector Stream Approach, released on June 1, 2013.
Under section 64, substances are considered harmful if they are entering or could enter the environment in quantities or concentrations or under conditions that:
- have or may have an immediate or long-term harmful effect on the environment or its biological diversity;
- constitute or may constitute a danger to the environment on which life depends;
- constitute or may constitute a danger to human life or health in Canada.
