Sunday May 31, 2009

Event: Presentation of the Faites de l'air program
Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Location: 3950 St-Laurent Boulevard, Montreal
Description: Open to the public. ‘Faites de l’air’ is Quebec’s contribution to Canada’s vehicle recycling program, Retire Your Ride. The goal for the whole country is to retire 50,000 1995 model year or older vehicles each year until March 31, 2011. The goal for Quebec is to retire 20,000 vehicles by the end of the program. The program is intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality and protect the environment by encouraging Quebeckers and Canadians to retire their old vehicles and recycle them responsibly. Vehicles that are a 1995 model year or older produce 19 times more pollutants than 2004 or newer models, and automobile pollution contributes to the formation of smog. There are currently over 600,000 old (1995 or earlier model year) vehicles on Quebec roads. They represent 10% of the total number of vehicles in Quebec but produce over half the pollution. That is why the ‘Faites de l’air’ program focuses on these old vehicles.
