Air quality monitoring: particles and related trace gases

Ten Meter Tower

CAPMoN Air Tower @ ELA

Particle and trace gas concentrations are determined using 24 hour integrated filter measurements. The filters are designed to measure specific gases and particles in air that contribute to dry deposition. CAPMoN uses 47 mm filter media contained in a three stage filter pack mounted at a height of ten meters (right). A sequential sampler (below, left) cycles the flow through a different filter pack (below right) every 24 hours at 08:00 LST. The air flow through the filter pack is maintained at 17 litres per minute by a mass flow controller. The flow rate along with quality control information is sent by telemetry to CAPMoN daily. All filters are shipped to the CAPMoN Laboratory for chemical analysis.
