Dry Cleaning Regulations

This section provides information on the federal Tetrachloroethylene (PERC) (Use in Dry Cleaning and Reporting Requirements) Regulations under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA1999) and related documents, including Compliance Promotion Packages and Strategic Options Report.      

The final PERC regulations were passed into law on February 27, 2003.  These regulations are based on the key recommendations in the Strategic Options Report on stakeholder consultation.

Compliance promotion packages are available for:

  • Owners and/or operators of dry-cleaning machines/facilities using tetrachloroethylene;
  • Sellers of tetrachloroethylene to owners or operators of dry cleaning machines/facilities;
  • Importers of tetrachloroethylene into Canada; and
  • Recyclers of tetrachloroethylene.
