North American Bird Banding Manual

An official publication of the Canadian Wildlife Service and the United States Geological Survey, the banding manual is a key reference book for banders. Volume I describes banders' responsibilities, procedures to obtain permits and bands, and how to report banding and encounter information. The manual also describes the computer system in which the banding and encounter data are stored, and how banders and wildlife managers can obtain and use data.

The banding manual is available in French or English by contacting the Bird Banding Office. You can also read parts of it, in English only, on the United States Bird Banding Laboratory's web site. It is also available in pdf format.
