2017 East Coast Hurricane Awareness Tour Comes to Gander, NL
The Canadian Hurricane Centre and the Newfoundland & Labrador Weather Office are pleased to host the first stop of the American-led 2017 Hurricane Awareness Tour in Gander, Newfoundland & Labrador on Sunday, May 7, 2017. Afterwards, the tour will continue on to five U.S. East Coast cities.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Gulfstream IV aircraft, and the US Air Force Reserve’s WC-130J hurricane hunter aircraft, will be onsite and available for public tours. These specialized planes use cutting edge technology to gain valuable information on tropical storms which could impact the Atlantic coast of Canada and the US.
U.S. hurricane experts, scientists and aircraft crew members as well as Canadian Hurricane Centre meteorologists will be available to talk about the potential impacts from tropical cyclones threats and the danger of being caught without a personal hurricane plan.
The Canadian Hurricane Centre works closely with the US National Hurricane Center. Watch the video In the Eye of the Storm: The Canadian Hurricane Centre to learn more about what they do.
