Spring Makeover for Weather.gc.ca

sun, sun with clouds and rain, clouds with lightning and rain

Weather.gc.ca has a fresh new look, layout and features to better serve your weather information needs. For optimal viewing and ease of use, please refresh your browser window or clear your cache to ensure you are getting the most up-to-date version of the site.

Key Changes

Here are some of the changes you will see on our refreshed website.

Home Page

A new carousel feature which provides easy access to our five most popular Canadian weather products:  current conditions, radar, alerts, satellite, and jet stream

Current weather conditions for major Canadian cities are also now easier to find on the home page.

The re-organised menus were developed by testing our site navigation with users like you. Menu items are now horizontally linked and include Weather, Alerts, Marine, Air Quality, Technical and Past Weather.

Local Forecast Pages

Local forecast page improvements include:

  • restyled icons
  • adjustments to indicate over-night lows
  • easy access to Celsius and Fahrenheit measurements, and;
  • a quick link to “Change City” for other local forecasts.

Alerts

We have improved presentation of weather alerts on our site, presenting warning information at the individual forecast level (rather than by province).

Radar

Improvements to radar content include optional “city” layers for all radar maps.

Marine

Domestic marine zones have recently been added in the Canadian Arctic. Arctic marine weather information will continue to expand in coming years.

Marine maps now also have improved colour contrast and tables.

Air Quality Health Index

Air Quality Health Index include improved presentation of AQHI forecast values.

New templates provide for improved contextual search.

Government Web Accessibility and Usability

The new look and feel for weather.gc.ca adheres to the new Government of Canada web accessibility and usability standards. These new standards will be applied to all Government of Canada websites by July 31, 2013 so that Canadians may easily find and use information and services across the government.

Timescales and next steps

The pages you now see were launched in April 2013. Over the next year you can expect additional improvements to the website to serve you better.
