Regulations Amending the New Substances Notification Regulations (Chemicals and Polymers) and the Export of Substances on the Export Control List Regulations (SOR/2015-19)

The Regulations Amending the New Substances Notification Regulations (Chemicals and Polymers) and the Export of Substances on the Export Control List Regulations make administrative changes to two existing Regulations under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999. The changes are in response to the implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals through the amendment of the Hazardous Products Act and the proposed Hazardous Products Regulations.

The amendments to the New Substances Notification Regulations (Chemicals and Polymers) are administrative in nature and consist of a revision to the definition in subsection 1(1), changing "Material Safety Data Sheet" to "Safety Data Sheet". All Schedules of the Regulations require that a Material Safety Data Sheet be provided if available, therefore the amendment replaces "Material Safety Data Sheet" with "Safety Data Sheet". The changes to the Export of Substances on the Export Control List Regulations include revisions to Section 22 and Item 14 of Schedule 2 relating to the Safety Data Sheet which must be included for certain exports and with export permit applications.
