Regulations Amending the Disposal at Sea Regulations (SOR/2009-256)

The purpose of the Regulations Amending the Disposal at Sea Regulations (hereinafter referred to as the "proposed amendments") is to set boundary lines between freshwater and marine waters in the Fraser, Mackenzie and Miramichi estuaries in order to clarify federal jurisdiction with respect to controlling disposal at sea, as specified in Part 7, Division 3, of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999). In addition, the proposed amendments would clarify that disposal activities in the Bras d'or Lakes, which contain brackish water, fall under the authority of CEPA 1999.
