Environmental Code of Practice for base metals smelters and refineries: tables and figures

List of Tables and Figures

Figure 1: Process overview for the extraction and processing of base metals

A flowchart showing the process of producing refined metals. Canadian mined or imported ore goes through mineral concentration, followed by either smelting or converting, or pressure leaching, or roasting and leaching, or leaching only. The refined metal is then produced by electrorefining, electrowining, carbonyl refining or chemical treatment.

Figure 2: Processes involved in the extraction and refining of base metals

A flowchart showing technical processes starting from mining and milling of the ore generating mineral concentrate followed by smelting and refining, which results in emissions to air and water, by-products, and the various refined metals. Some of the material is also recycled to the feedstock.
