Reference method for measuring releases of mercury from mercury cell chlor-alkali plants: section 3

Section 3: Reliability

3.1 Specificity

The method is specific for mercury in the chlor-alkali plant gas streams detailed in Section 2.

3.2 Limit of Detection

The detection timid of the method is 10 ng of mercury in the aeration system. This is equivalent to a concentration of 2 μg/m3, based on a 4-h sampling period of 1 L/min and a 10-mL aliquot of collecting solution.

3.3 Accuracy

The accuracy of the mercury collection and concentration measurement method is ± 5%. For the actual period of flow measurement, the volumetric flow rate is accurate to within ± 10%.
