Suggested estimation methodology: Emission Factor

The general equation for emissions estimation is:

E = A x EF

where:

  • E = emissions
  • A = activity rate
  • EF = emission factor

Input Data

The activity rate (A) is the number of tonnes of grain processed. There are individual emission factors for Total Particulate Matter (TPM), Particulate matter with a diameter less than or equal to 10 micrometres (µm) (PM10) and Particulate matter with a diameter less than or equal to 2.5 micrometres (PM2.5) for each of the grain elevator processes. The total emissions for each substance will be the sum of the each of the emissions for each process.

Note on Emissions Factors

The default emission factors are used in the table above, however if you have a site specific emission factor you would prefer to use you may enter it in the emission factor column. If you choose to insert your own emission factor ensure that the units have been converted accordingly. 

Except where indicated, the emission factors used in this spreadsheet are based on uncontrolled emissions. If you are using an emission control device you will have to adjust the emissions calculated by this spreadsheet according to the following formula:

Controlled Emissions = Uncontrolled emission x ((100 - control efficiency)/100)
