Geocachers (ready, set, go)
The objective of this project is to have high school students promote information on their particular watershed to others that use that watershed.
Shortly, Environment Canada intends to have an entire network of "Geocache Your Watershed" caches for you to find. These caches are going to be placed and maintained by local high schools and their details will be posted here and on the geocaching website. Simply search for "GYW" in the geocaching search engine.
How are these Geocaches going to be different?
Students are going to research their local watershed and write information pamphlets about what they have learned. They will then transfer that knowledge to the public who visit their watershed location by way of geocaching. It is up to the students how they want to deliver this information through their caches.
Every school will be different and some might have a pamphlet for you to take while others may have a series of caches in the area which you will have to visit to earn a special reward! There will also be Geocaching Travel Bugs that will each have a special mission.
Keep watching this site because we will soon be releasing a limited edition Geocoin to celebrate the success of "Geocache Your Watershed".
Are you up for the challenge?
As geocachers you are invited and challenged to find all these caches and at the same time learn about the areas in which you are caching. These students have spent quite a bit of time researching and pulling together information on their watersheds. You'll be surprised to find out about some of the activities that are happening in these areas!
Below you will find the waypoint names and links that the students have used for their caches. When you find them, please take the time to read the information supplied in the cache. You can also share your comments when you record your find at the Geocaching website, www.geocaching.com.
