Our Partners
Environment Canada's mandate under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and the Fisheries Act set out its coordinating role and responsibility in the area of environmental emergencies involving the unplanned, uncontrolled or accidental release of hazardous substances. This means Environment Canada works in partnership with other Departments in the Government of Canada in prevention, preparedness and response to emergencies that affect the environment, as well as in the recovery from those emergencies. For instance, Environment Canada activities complement emergency plans and procedures, and the Department coordinates support services in an emergency. It is also involved in providing essential information for recovery.
Partnership examples include the Canadian Coast Guard and Environment Canada working together during marine emergencies; or Environment Canada working with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans on enforcement of the Fisheries Act. Other key partners are:
