Environmental Assessment Program and Activities

At Environment Canada environmental assessment activities are delivered through the Environmental Assessment (EA) Program, which is a national network of EA practitioners, analysts, scientists, engineers, and support staff across many disciplines who work together to provide EA services to protect Canada's environment.

The role of the EA program is to examine projects and project proposals; perform environmental assessments; provide expert advice to other federal departments and agencies; and respond to requests for Environment Canada’s scientific expertise from provincial, municipal and aboriginal governments to support their environmental assessments.

In addition, collaborative work is carried out with other federal departments and agencies on policies and guidelines aimed at improving the federal environmental assessment process, and with other levels of government to ensure the integrity of the natural environment in Canada.

The Environmental Assessment Program consists of five Regional EA Offices across Canada, and an EA Program Headquarters.

  • Quebec Region

  • Prairie and Northern Region - Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba
