News Release
Registration for the Fall Greater Snow Goose Hunt at the Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area
QUEBEC CITY, Que. -- February 5, 2009 -- Environment Canada’s Canadian Wildlife Service wishes to inform hunters that they can now register for the draw for the Greater Snow Goose hunt at the Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area in the fall of 2009.
Hunters may obtain a registration form for entering the draw by visiting Environment Canada’s Canadian Wildlife Service website at www.qc.ec.gc.ca/faune/sauvagine/html/entryform2009.html. For more information, please call 418-827-3776, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Hunters can register for the traditional hunt or the self-guided hunt or even both. Registering for each type of hunt costs $8. The registration fees are non-refundable. Only one registration per person will be accepted. Hunters have until April 30, 2009, to return their registration form. The winning hunters will be contacted by telephone in mid‑May in the order in which their names were drawn.
The traditional hunting package provides the winner and three guests with transportation in a horse-drawn sleigh to the hunting grounds. The package, which offers two half-days with guide services for four hunters, costs $790, taxes included.
Like the traditional hunting package, the self-guided hunting package allows the winner to bring three guests, but it does not include guide services. The package offers two half-days for four hunters and costs $430, taxes included.
All hunters can take advantage of the various services available in the wildlife area: decoys, blinds, transportation of equipment to the hunting grounds, and geese storage.
This goose-hunt has been held since 1972 to protect the bulrush marsh, which is a feeding ground for geese, and to help control the snow goose population.
