From May 13-15, 2011, Let's Hear It for the Birds at the Biosphère
MONTREAL, Que. -- May 11, 2011 -- From May 13-15, the Biosphère Environment Museum is inviting nature lovers to the Let’s Hear It for the Birds event. Ornithology and the world of birds will be the focus of half a dozen entertaining and informative activities developed to highlight the 40th anniversary of Environment Canada.

Learn about the ethics of ornithology and adopt the proper etiquette for birdwatching and bird photography, thanks to a talk by the Regroupement QuébecOiseaux.
Birds challenge you!
Put your knowledge to the test with games aimed at identifying different species of birds and take part in a short geocaching circuit on endangered species.
Fascinating birds of prey!
Learn all about birds of prey by participating in an activity hosted by the Union québécoise de réhabilitation des oiseaux de proie and admire some species, including the great horned owl and the American kestrel, right at the Biosphère!
Attracting birds at home
Check out the mini nesting boxes exhibit To Each His Home! and learn how to choose and install nesting boxes that are adapted for different local bird species.
Where do they hide?
Learn more about the Québec Breeding Bird Atlas and help develop this ambitious project by becoming a volunteer birdwatcher.
Environment Canada experts will also be there to answer questions about Environment Canada’s network of protected areas, as well as bird banding, monitoring and protection.
Let’s Hear It for the Birds activities held on the Biosphère’s outdoor grounds are free. An art installation of birdfeeders made from reclaimed materials as well as a nature lounge are the focus of an entertaining and colourful scenography designed for the event.

As an environment museum, the Biosphère is mandated to encourage everyone to take action on environmental issues. In addition to presenting exhibits and special events, the Biosphère develops educational and outreach products for various clienteles across Canada and is a recognized clearinghouse for environmental information.
