• Government of Canada works to protect Canada's water through wastewater regulations

  BROCKVILLE, Ont. -- February 9, 2010 -- Canada's Environment Minister, Jim Prentice today announced that a draft of proposed municipal wastewater systems effluent regulations is now available for public consultation.

• Canada Lists Emissions Target under the Copenhagen Accord

  CALGARY, Alta. -- February 1, 2010 -- Canada's Environment Minister, the Honourable Jim Prentice, announced on Saturday, January 30, 2010, the submission of Canada's 2020 emissions reduction target under the Copenhagen Accord. Canada's target, a 17 per cent reduction from 2005 levels, is completely aligned with the U.S. target, and is subject to adjustment to remain consistent. Canada's target is contingent on all major emitters associating with the Accord.

• Government of Canada Releases Draft Screening Assessments for Batch 8 Substances

  OTTAWA, Ont. -- February 2, 2010 -- The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health and the Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of Environment, today released the draft screening assessment reports and risk management scopes for 14 substances assessed in Batch 8 of the Chemicals Management Plan.

• The Government of Canada and the Nature Conservancy of Canada Conserve Valuable Habitat and Species in Southwestern Nova Scotia

  HALIFAX, NS -- January 13, 2010 -- On behalf of Canada's Environment Minister, the Honourable Jim Prentice, Gerald Keddy, Parliamentary Secretary for International Trade and Member of Parliament for South Shore - St. Margaret's, today announced the Nature Conservancy of Canada's successful acquisition of the Atlantic Coastal Plain Project property, which is 3,668 acres (1,484 hectares) of land near Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
