Climate Modelling and Analysis

Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis

The Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis (CCCma) is a division of the Climate Research Branch of Environment Canada. CCCma is located on the second floor of the Bob Wright Building on the campus of the University of Victoria (see the university and Wright Centre maps). Overview

The CCCma carries out research in modelling and analysis.

The modelling component involves;

• developing computer models of the climate system to simulate global climate, regional climate, and climate change
• attributing observed climate changes to specific causes
• predicting seasonal and longer term climate variations

In order to undertake this research, the CCCma has an ongoing model development programme. Over the years, models of increasing sophistication have been developed, permitting study of more complex climate questions. The Models page gives a brief description of past and present models.

Under the analysis component, CCCma

• analyses past and predicted climate variations to gain a deeper understanding of the climate system
• provides science–based quantitative information to the national and the international community, notably coordinated model experiments organized by the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and contributions to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
