Air Quality Health Index:

Enhanced Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) Service for the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games

Environment Canada has enhanced the AQHI service in Toronto and Hamilton for the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games this summer.  New hourly forecasts, along with daily forecasts and current values, are being provided for local areas in Toronto and Hamilton.  This enhanced service will assist the athletes, visitors and local residents to plan their activities for the day, by helping to reduce their health risk from exposure to air pollution in their local area.

The new hourly forecast service, is being launched as a pilot project and will provide AQHI forecasts on the hour, for the next 18 hours.  The forecasts will be issued for Toronto and Hamilton, as well as for individual air monitoring stations throughout the two cities.  In addition to the six regular monitoring stations, two new temporary stations have been added on Toronto Island and at York University to better serve the Pan Am venues. This enhanced AQHI service provides a better understanding of how air quality can change throughout the day, and across the two cities.  These services will last for the duration of the Pan Am and Parapan Am games.
