Environment Canada's Enforcement Branch ensures that organizations and individuals respect laws administered by Environment Canada that protect the natural environment, its biodiversity and the health of Canadians. These laws aim to reduce damage and threats to the environment, its ecosystems and its biodiversity for the benefit of all Canadians and the international community.
What we do as Enforcement Officers
- We gather intelligence, conduct inspections and investigate alleged violations that could endanger wildlife or cause harm to the environment.
- We work with key provincial, territorial, federal and international stakeholders to develop and implement partnerships.
We accomplish this work by relying on our core values: professionalism, integrity, collaboration and respect.
Educational requirements and training programs
We require a post-secondary diploma in one of the following fields:
- Natural or environmental sciences
- Legal or police sciences
- Criminology
Candidates must successfully complete our nine-week Basic Enforcement Training.
