Duck Poacher Receives Heavy Fines and Licence Suspensions

CARAQUET, N.B. -- October 12, 2010 -- Paul-Andre David, age 23 of Pigeon Hill, New Brunswick pleaded guilty today in New Brunswick Provincial Court in Caraquet before Provincial Court Judge Yvette Finn. 

Mr. David received $6000 in fines under the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994 for hunting migratory birds during the closed season, for hunting from a power boat, and for possessing lead shot for the purpose of hunting migratory birds. 

Mr. David also pleaded guilty to two charges in total under the New Brunswick Fish and Wildlife Act and received a fine of $350. 

In addition to the fines, Mr. David is subject to a two-year prohibition against hunting migratory birds, or from being in the company of anyone hunting migratory birds. He was also ordered by Judge Finn to surrender hunting gear to the Court.
