Public Works and Government Services Canada contributes $50,000 to the Environment Damages Fund for violations of Federal Halocarbon Regulations
September 22, 2009
WINNIPEG, Man. – As part of an Environmental Protection Alternative Measures (EPAM) agreement, Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) has agreed to contribute $50,000 to the Environmental Damages Fund (EDF) and meet several compliance measures to address seven Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), 1999 violations.
The violations leading to the EPAM were noted on March 8, 2007 following an Environment Canada investigation of air conditioning units in a Government of Canada building located at 266 Graham Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Once the court is satisfied that PWGSC has complied with the terms of the EPAM agreement, all charges will be dismissed. For more information on EPAM agreements and agreements registered with the courts, please visit the CEPA Environmental Registry web site at: http://www.ec.gc.ca/CEPARegistry/enforcement/EPAMs.cfm
