Main Emission Sources:

Estimated total VOC emissions in Canada in year 2005 were  1 935 311 tonnes (without open sources e.g. agricultural animals, forest fires, prescribed burning). The primary emitting sources are:

  • transportation sources (e.g. on-road and off-road motor vehicles and engines, marine)
  • upstream oil and gas industry (e.g. production and distribution of petroleum and natural gas, oil sands)
  • other industrial sources (e.g. petroleum refineries, pulp and paper, iron and steel, plastics manufacturing)
  • commercial and consumer products (e.g. solvent use, surface coating, printing, degreasing)
  • fuel marketing
  • residential wood combustion
  • other non-industrial sources (e.g. commercial and residential fuel combustion, wood waste incineration)
