Main Emission Sources

Estimated total NO_x emissions in Canada in year 2005 were 2,377,485 tonnes (without open sources e.g. forest fires, prescribed burning). The primary emitting sources are:

• transportation sources (e.g. on-road and off-road motor vehicles and engines, rail)
• fossil-fuelled electric power plants
• upstream oil and gas industry (e.g. natural gas plants, oil sands)
