Environment Canada’s International Polar Year Achievements

cover of publicationEnvironment Canada’s International Polar Year Achievements report describes EC’s research programme for the International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2008, including significant achievements, innovations and preliminary findings. The report covers the five IPY projects led by EC scientists, which investigated: how to better predict the North's complex weather; the state and health of northern freshwater systems; the impacts of a changing climate on snow and ice; and the sources, movement and alteration of contaminants in the northern environment and food web. It also describes the 14 projects led by other organizations in which EC partnered or collaborated. EC also had a role in the IPY providing important weather, marine and sea ice information to ensure the safety of Canadian and foreign IPY researchers working in Canada’s North as well as responding to project specific research data requirements.
