During the 1901 to 2000, 877 storms were reported over the Atlantic Basin period while 499 storms occurred during the 1951 to 2000 period. Subsets of these storm tracks were used to evaluate tropical storm frequencies for given areas. For example, all storms that crossed Nova Scotia were extracted from the original 877 and that subset was used for the Nova Scotia statistics. The full Atlantic Basin storm summary is provided in this section. It can be used as a general reference to the 20th century tropical storm events on the North Atlantic. See the yearly track maps for the specific paths over Canada and adjacent offshore waters.
