Recent news from Environment Canada

The Government of Canada has invested another $4.1 million in 19 new restoration projects in continued support of the Lake Simcoe clean-up efforts. Since 2008, the five-year Lake Simcoe Clean-Up Fund has provided more than $15 million to 165 local projects undertaken to preserve and improve this important water body.

Canada's Environment Minister Peter Kent and Fisheries and Oceans Minister Gail Shea recently announced a $34.8 million investment in meteorological and navigational warning services in the Arctic. This investment will provide enhanced accessibility to weather data and navigational shipping information for mariners, economic sectors and the general population of the North.

Environment Canada’s Status of Birds in Canada website is now live! This new interactive site provides an overall picture of the current bird population in Canada and its evolution over the last 40 years.

On February 17, Nature, the international weekly journal of science, featured the climate research work of Environment Canada scientists.  Read their paper entitled “Human contribution to more intense precipitation extremes”.
