The involvement of the public in matters related to CEPA 1999 is an integral part of the success of this Act. In fact, the opinion of the public is so highly regarded that under CEPA 1999 (Part 2, section 17), "an individual who is resident in Canada and at least 18 years of age may apply to the Minister for an investigation of any offence under this Act that the individual alleges has occurred."
Industry and individuals are continually invited to participate in a wide variety of public consultations through notices published in Canada's official parliamentary journal, the Canada Gazette. Some consultations are also posted on various Environment Canada websites, such as that of the CEPA Priority Substances Assessment Program for the Priority Substances List consultations.
This section highlights all public consultations that are currently in progress under CEPA 1999 and provides the public with important information on where to direct their comments. The CEPA Environmental Registry is not a forum for public consultations but rather a means of providing pertinent information regarding ongoing consultations. Please do not send comments on any public consultation directly to the Registry as they will not be accepted.
